I've only had two bikes, neither of which is deserving of the name 'motorcycle'. Both were bought new in 1956/1957.
The first was a Simplex Servi-Cycle, which was essentially a very beefed-up bicycle. It was a very well-made machine, but the 125 cc engine wouldn't pull your hat off your head. No gears--a centrifugal clutch powered a belt that ran in a channel around the rear wheel rim. It blew a head gasket shortly after I got it, so I traded up for a Harley Hummer 125, also a 1956/1957 model.
The Hummer was a nice little bike, but also underpowered. Two-cycle, three-speed. Fifty down a steep hill. Even so, it would go anywhere, and it allowed me to get away from our remote rural farm and have some social life.
I would love to have them both back, especially the Servi-Cycle. My sister-in-law rides around on my place on her Honda Z 50, about a 1970 model.
