Malfunction indicator light came on in my 01 Dodge Ram truck. The dealer said the code that was stored was P1740 which is something to do with the overdrive. They replaced the transmission overdrive solenoid. On the way home the light came on again with the same code. Now they are saying it has to be the torque converter. They are telling me that if we pull the transmission, that would be the time to rebuild or replace it. The cost for a rebuilt would be almost half the value of the truck. I could save some money and only replace the torque converter, but who knows when something else will go wrong with the transmission. Has anyone here been through this? Any advice? I do have an old tractor and I like old tractors.
