A friend (female) of our family had a date to the Senior Prom, and her date apparently thought she would be impressed if he swerved to hit a possum that was crossing the road. She was impressed, all right, but not favorably- she said she was never so mad in her entire life, and hysterically threatened him with Serious Bodily Harm if he did not turn around and take her home immediately. End of date.
As someone mentioned below re school bus driving- I substituted when in college, and among the rules was immediate dismissal if you swerved to miss a small animal. You were allowed to brake hard if a cow or larger, but still, no swerving.
