I don't doubt that golf carts and 4 wheelers are (ab)used by those who are too lazy to walk. I see that in our local show. The requirement of having a handicapped permit is a good idea. I do have that, for a couple of years. I've had a hip replacement that turned out excellent, need another, have L3,4,5 issues, and had a stent put in, but still have heart issues that prevent me from walking more than 2 blocks without stopping to rest, even with a cane. I've been on crutches or a walker multiple times, and most people are cognizant and helpful.
But on a recent trip to Florida, I rented a wheelchair for several days- Disney, etc, in Orlando. Little kids were so courteous, just like adults my age (69). Worst? 25-35 somethings....always on a mission from point A to B, no regard to who they walk into......or I'm busting butt to push up a hill and they stand there when they see me coming. Better half is helping push. A few nice people helped her, some staff as well. Those favors are so nice, so thoughtful.
But one pair of girls, about 30, totally oblivious until they finally stepped aside after we stopped on an upgrade......I stared them down with......'ok, you want to trade places?'.
There's a big difference in accommodations for handicapped. Disney World- long walks from parking to entrance to wheelchair rental, cobblestone streets. Access to shows was down front- DOWN (then up) a ramp. Sea World, Universal Studios.....good access at the rear of the theatre, level with street. It's really a learning experience once you're not so mobile.

The colony remained far from self-supporting and it was not until the early 1800's that things started to improve. Free settlers started to arrive, they followed the explorers across the mountains and where land was suitable set up farms. T
