ALL of the diesel rated oil have about the same additive package to meet the current api ratings... SO... the cleaning effect is in ALL of these oils.. Only the base oil is a bit different. So.. with that said..
buy the rated oil for the temperature your using. If your doing lots of below 32 degree work such as snow plowing and need cold weather starting then move to a 5w-40 package. If not used below freezing much, then geta 15w-40 package.. This should determine what kind of oil you buy and use. The 5w-40 package will have more synthetic and the 15w-40 will have more group II/group III base oils.
Now... the additive package will clean up sludge and can leach silicon out of certain seals and gaskets.. So if your seals and gaskets are bad, cleaning all the sludge off of them will cause leaking. And pure silicon seals and gaskets were quickly changed out when the industry discovered modern additives/base oils would react with them. Even the gasket sealer formulas were changed to be stable with the "new" oils.
