I used to own a business where we did PMs on equipment for customers and had to get there quick to get it "up" again when it went down. We knew exactly what was likely to cause a problem and how to inspect components in order to head-off problems. None of us liked going out after hours and we were pretty good at preventing those calls. I had one guy though that I couldn't get on the program. When questioned about a particular call, his answer was no, he didn't dissassemble the component to inspect it. "If it ain't broke-don't fix it." He finally left after telling an unimpressed customer that he was having to do all the work. Currently I help companies get started in the same business. I supply them with a long list of inspections and PMs that should be done in order to avoid emergency calls. It is titled "How to get the service techs home on time or "If it ain't broke it will break on Friday night"
