Did yo set the bearing pre-loads to the new case or just moved the whole thing like it was??? Bearing preloads have to be set to every shaft, bearing, and case. If you do not then the nearing maybe too tight or too loose. Too loose will let the gears mesh be too deep and then they will make noise. Too tight and the shaft will turn too hard.
The lube will make it a little quieter but not a lot. At the slow speed you are going pushing it. The transmission should be quiet.
I vote that you will need to try again on the switch.
