I would bet that he either sheared the pin in the control lever linkage, sheared the center out of the PTO clutch, or maybe broke the shift collar that hooks the front shaft to the rear shaft.
You can drain the hydraulic oil and remove the bolts around the PTO quill and pull it out the back. You can see the shift collar from there but that is all.
If the trouble is in the lever or collar you have to take the rock shaft housing of the top of the transmission to repair any of it.
If the trouble is in the PTO clutch you have to split the tractor for that repair. Need to look closer and see what the trouble is.
