Extension cords work great for wiring trailers, too- they have the 3 conductors you need to go all the way to the back- left turn, right turn and tail-lights. Splice into the tail-light wire for the clearance lights. You need another, larger wire for the electric brakes, which I snap-tie to the extension cord. Another wire grounded at the front of the trailer, forward to the plug. Cover the whole thing with electrician's tape from front of trailer forward. Whole lash-up costs about 5 bucks. Double or triple that if you buy 3 conductor, color coded trailer wire, and the wire isn't as well protected. I make up a chart of which color goes where, and put it in the glovebox of the pickup.
