I don't know if you could find the flow ratings of the filter based on oil viscosity on line or not. It is possible that even a 25 micron filter will not pass enough flow through it with cold oil so even on that filter the bypass may open. If you could find those specifications you could most likely figure out if the volume of oil could pass through without opening the valve.
