Assuming a sickle bar mower, the sections (knives) must be timed so they are in the center of the ledger plate (in the guard) when the eccentric drive is at full stroke. This causes the knife to be in position to make a full cut on each stroke. If this is not correct it will plug badly. If the sections are dull, and the ledgers as well, the mower will not cut well (especially in ropy or tough material. The bar clips that hold the sickle bar into the main bar must be capable of holding the sections down against the ledger. if loose the mower will act like a pair of scissors with a loose screw. Good luck, they take some finikey adjustments to get right, but are a great mower when working. Jim
