Soooooo, John, are you ssssure you have only an 80 amp alternator? I'll bet its twice that or better. And if your volts maintain at 14.3, where's the beef? If your volts drop, or your lights brown out, well then maybe you should worry. If you do drop volts, and continues to run for long periods, then you might overheat the alternator windings, leading the alternator to fail or shorten its life. Gosh, alternators are so trouble free, and they seem to fail for no reason, only once in a blue moon. Usually a blown diode puts an alternator out of service. Sooooo, keep an eye on the volt meter, and only worry about the gas gauge, and the cost of keeping THAT needle on full. Best Regards, Charlie
