I'm considering buying a JD 4720 (large CUT) for what I call "first round" mowing duty with a Woods BB720 6' cutter. I have little doubt that the 56 HP (2400 RPM), 3800 lb. FWA 4720 can handle the 6' cutter even on steep ground with about 450 lbs of front weights.
My question involves using my Woods BB840 7' cutter on it. I currently use the 7' cutter with a MF 2635, 60 PTO HP FWA tractor. The 2635 is much heavier (over 7000 lbs.) and has sufficient HP for my purposes but if I can use both the 7' as well as the 6' cutter on the 4720, I can sell not only my 6' tractor (MF 533) but also my 7' tractor (the 2635), which will pay for the expensive 4720 hydro.
Anyone have similar experiences or thoughts?
FWIW, JD offers an extension for the front weight bracket that allows mounting up to 10 (12?), 70 lb. front weights.
