Esso/Exxon was a different company but they have since merged with Mobil which evolved from SOCONY which is what that building is.
Standard of New Jersey started using the Exxon name around 1972. They had been marketing in different areas of the country under Esso, Enco, Oval E, Humble, Carter as well as using the names of regional companies they had purchased. They combined their marketing under the new Exxon name. Exxon did continue to use a tiger in their marketing.
Mobil switched from the familiar Pegasus logo to the "big red A-hole" logo in the mid sixties. In recent years they've used the pegasus in their marketing.
The Dinosaur (Sinclair) is still going strong west of the Mississippi.
