Reminds me of my FFA project in my senior year. I raised some chickens, thought that would be easy. I butchered them all one Friday and put them in a barrel of ice water in the back of Dad's pickup. Saturday morning I headed to town with them. I had real good luck selling them, was down to my last chicken, feeling good, had a date that night and a pocket full of cash. I pulled in to a yard and the woman came to the door. I asked her if she wanted to buy a dressed chicken. I climbed up in the back of the truck and pulled it out of the water. She asked me how much it weighed? Shoot,I didn't know,I was selling them by the piece not the pound, but I kind of hefted it up and down and said "3 pounds". She said well, the preacher was coming for Sunday dinner and she really needed a 4 pounder. I really wanted to get rid of that last chicken,so I pushed it back in the barrel, swirled it around, lifted it back up and said "there you go,there's a 4 pounder". She kind of dug around in the bottom of her purse and said "you know what? I've got a little more money here than I thought I did,I'll take'em both".

Free settlers started to arrive, they followed the explorers across the mountains and where land was suitable set up farms. T
