It sounds like you are getting pressure to one direction only. I have had that problem some times when you use the pioneer ball coupler against the IH coupler with the points. I just changed to either the balls or stayed with the points. The balls will sometimes cause the point to shift sideways letting the ball stay closed. Otherwise the valve may have worn to the point the oil is going by the spool. After all the tractor is 40 years old. The decent shouldn't have anything to do with the pressure problem you have. We took the detents out of our valves with no problems.
