JD Seller was very knowledgeable about machinery and farming in general, and JD stuff in particular, as are many on here. But what set him apart was his willingness to spend significant time to use his knowledge to help people out- even to the extent of posting copies of manuals and parts books, or talking to them on the phone, to make it all clear. He put a lot of time into helping on this site, and I can certainly understand his irritation when certain folks can't wait to attack him over what was simply a misunderstanding from his post- that is, there were three combines working, not 2, and "the math" works with 3.
I guess the bigger question is, why are some people so quick to pounce when they perceive an error or misstatement? Some of it is jealousy, I suppose- Seller was clearly more successful and more knowledgeable than many on here (myself certainly included). And when successful people talk about what they know or have done, I suppose it can come across as arrogance, when its actually just fact.
But the sad fact is, some people are just jerks. You see it at the coffee shop, you see it everywhere. My dad had it right, and I try to live by what he said- "You can't build yourself up by tearing someone else down."
I regret that I didn't save his post about saving the 4 Vietnamese girls- it was truly inspiring.
