This was part of a spin on filter. It's not a replaceable element, I had to cut it apart to get it to look like this. The material you see there is definitely a filter material. It's a plastic material, so I wonder if the oil got to it over time. It was left way too long before being changed, just never got around to it. I have enough stuff that NEEDS to be fixed that some preventive maintenance gets over-looked. On the other tractors,(Allis 185 and 200) I don't need to change the fluid because it has an auto-renew system (read:leaks). Just spin a new filter on and I'm good to go.
