Ive seen plenty of mags left intact to serve as the "distributor" function and an external coil was added so it then worked and was fed energy from the battery and an IGN switch.
Ive seen plenty of mag to battery powered coil/distributor conversions AND THEN AN ELEC SWITCH WAS USED IN THE MAG WHICH REPLACED THE POINTS.
BUT A STRAIGHT TRACTOR MAG TO ELEC IGNITION UNIT (which normally has connection to the switch or coil for battery power that operates switch and powers coil) IVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF
Unlike a battery powered coil distributor ignition that uses battery energy, a Mag does not need a battery connection and can be used on like old hand crank tractors that don't even have a battery. The elec ignitions I've seen are for converting a battery powered ignition over to an elec ignition.
SO LIKE BOB IF ANYONE CAN LINK AN ADVERTISEMENT OR A VENDOR THAT SELLS SUCH AN ITEM PLEASE PLEASE POST IT SO WE CAN ALL LEARN
AGAIN that's for a direct MAG conversion to an elec ignition that can work on a tractor with no battery like many mags were used on
NOT convert a battery coil ignition over to an elec switch and NOT to convert a mag to a coil dist then change points to and an elec switch
and that CAN be used on a tractor with no battery
Please find such an item Id love to see how it operates. It would have to use the mags own internally generated energy to operate the elec switch and power up the coil and NOT require any external battery
NOTE IM NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT talking about a lawn moWER or magnetron or any such non battery powered ignition the question is about tractors !!!!!!!!!!
