I think the "Check Engine" light is the same scam. Ours was on one time. We took it in for some other work and told them to check that too. They forgot about the light until we went to pick it up. It sat outside,so the mechanic brought his hand held out and checked it out there. It said the gas cap was loose. It wasn't,but it gave a good excuse for the light to come on after a certain period of time. Just taking the battery cable off for a while will reset it.
