"Wish I could have got a gallon jar!"
That reminds me - a few years ago we butchered hogs with the neighbor, and he and his wife were over here helping cut up the meat. He mentioned that he always wanted to try to make some persimmon wine. I just happened to have eight one gallon jugs of ho-made persimmon wine aging in the cellar, so I sent one home with him. About a week later, he returned the empty jug and I sent another full one home with him. He ended up drinking all eight gallons of that persimmon wine. I personally didn't think much of the stuff, but he thought it was the greatest thing he'd ever swallowed. It was pretty - so clear you could read a newspaper thru a gallon jug.
I never tasted moonshine, but both of my wife's grandpas made it during prohibition, in fact, one was arrested for "violating the Volstead Act".
