I will always remember our "first" christmas tree! When we got married (10/02/1954)we didn't have ANY money for a tree. SO we had no choice but to make it a DIY tree. First we took a old broken off broom handle, cut it about 3 foot long, made a base from some scrap boards that were in the scrap pile at work. Then went to a tree dealer, begged for some branches, took them home, drilled some holes (with my pocket knife) shoved them into the broomstick. WHAMMO there she stood, we made the tree topper out of a thrown away ciggaret wrapper, and used some popcorn on string for decorating. Like I said I'll ALWAYS remember our first tree!!
