Last time I talked to an automotive student I was told they no longer cover points type ignition systems or carbs. That's because they are seldom seeing them in a shop. On the carbs it's to the point on most that it's cheaper to get a reman than it is to rebuild by the book which includes installing new choke and throttle shaft bushings and reaming them to fit, when paying labor. Keep in mine that most cars were IE by 76-77.
Last time I looked at a flat rate manual they gave the shop 8 hours to remove, disassemble, rebuild, install and adjust a Quadra-jet. At the time we were charging 55 an hour. It gave you an hour to remove an install/adjust a reman. The reamn was 200 bucks customer cost. So 8 hours at 55 an hour comes to 440 dollars plus the customer cost for the rebuild kit (good quality one) was about 50 bucks so call it 500 as opposed to 255 total for a reman. Just looking out for the customer it was best to go with a reman.
