I've done it a few times, but it's risky business, especially on the smaller ones.
The sheetmetal screw slide hammer works, sometimes you have to "cave in" the outer ring with a sharp chisel to relieve the press fit in the housing.
Just be very careful not to gouge the shaft or the housing bore. Weigh the risk... How much trouble will it be to disassemble this and clean everything up, do it right... Or take a chance of damaging something...
