Glenn, sorry but staying in a Motel 6 is NOT a wonderful way to see the countryside.
Have you been east of Green Bay the last few years (around the lake, not in it)? No offense to easterners, but the roads east are horrendous, BTDT....Ford is interested in using them for their new torture track...and the traffic is more than heavy.
I suggest you need to do what Gene Bender and I do....sign up for the WMT Radio tractorcade for this coming June. This Iowa ride is for 3 days, covering about 160 miles. And, only 550 tractors will come along with you! They split it up into 7 different speed groups so about 80 tractors per group. Police, sheriffs, state patrol are at every intersection and you just roll thru while all traffic waits for you to pass. And the food is so plentiful I calculated last year I averaged 100 calories per mile.
There will be 5 in our group from central Wisconsin, several others from around the state, plus there is at least one guy from Green Bay who joins in. Drivers come from LA, CA. VA. FL, MN, ND, SD, etc.
This is a good way to get your taste of a long range ride before you get into something you might regret.
