I had a similar experience with the starter in my feed truck. It needed the contact plate (plunger) and contacts in the solenoid. Went to my local parts store. I was told that those are "no longer serviceable" & I'd have to buy a rebuilt starter to the tune of 350 bucks ! Yeeuup - ordered them online! Really made me mad because I had to either drive 80 miles to another store or pull the starter, clean the contacts and get by for a couple days. I like to buy local too, but that place no longer gets all of my business.
