I have a 648 baler. it never had a monitor. I use the bale size indicator to tell when to stop and tie the bale (hydraulic tie). in the event that the operator is daydreaming and tries to make the bale too big for the chamber, the pickup shear bolt will protect the baler from damage. my baler had a lot of hay through it before I got it, and it still keeps on going.
