In the winter of 1972-73, I was 'off-crew' on the sub I rode. Here in N. Maryland we had almost no snow that year. But they had about 8" of snow in the Charleston area, where we had just been re-home ported to. It was almost comical to listen to the dire predictions and the terrible conditions they had to endure until it melted a couple of days later. No one had chains or snow tires, and the few 4 wheel drives and tractors were owned by farmers. Funniest story I remember was about the farmer who refused to pull the guy's $7,000 Cadillac out of the snow bank it was in with his $17,000 tractor because the caddie owner complained about his being hooked up "that big thing".....
