That has pretty well been my experience, too. BUT, the fine print states that the estimated lifetime is based on a minimum number of hours per daily use. Several years ago, before govt.mandates, we purchased some "long life" bulbs from somewhere that I don't remember now.They were supposed to be equivalent to 100W. Using them was a two step process. First you turned on the switch,then If you wanted to see anything, you lighted a candle for light! They probably put out about as many lumens as a 40W.
