Its a wonderful tribute, large or small, its the thought that counts. Its saddening but also commemorative. It exhibits solidarity, it celebrates by virtue of display, what farmers do, not only with their equipment, but when their time comes in passing, that those who remain are thinking of them with a physical means that others will see in appreciation of their work, dedication and the code that they live by.
I never knew, or even thought of the ceremonial use of ones equipment to pay tribute to a deceased farmer by doing this until earlier this week. I drove by my long time friend and farmers place, and saw that all the tractors, his sileage body truck and even the hay wagons were lined up, to pay tribute in the most fitting and honorable way one can think of. It was difficult to realize the significance of this, but in keeping with good spirit, it is a celebration of the persons life through the display of the tools they employed to perform their work. What could be more fitting than the exhibition of that persons equipment. If I had known, if it were not winter, and my grain truck was not at the other place I would have done the same in his honor with what I have and or offered the use of our frontage for the same purpose, as it was more visible. It stands for a lot, with defined meaning that runs deep, within those that do this work, and those that do not, but know what it represents, all due to the firm resilience demonstrated by the farming community when one of their own moves on to greener pastures.
