Thanks to everyone who gave advise on re-wiring the riding mower I bought. I got it wired today. I haven't bothered with headlights yet. They might have been wired to the AC wire from the Briggs engine which would make the on when the engine is running. Or, they could be battery run through the switch but if so they were on whenever the key is in the run position. This key has 3 positions. Off grounds the mag. Start connects battery to activate solenoid. On connects battery power to L (lights?) terminal. I confirmed this engine has a DC and an AC wire coming from the alternator.
I wired the brake and blade safety switches in series in the wire to the solenoid so it will not start with blades in gear or brake not pressed. I didn't bother with the seat one--always disable that anyway.
