Haha! I remember when I was plowing with my (another IH!) 674 and the alternator caught fire. I got off the tractor pretty sharpish I can tell you a covered it in damp soil (I had no extinguisher on board) and managed to put it out.Thank god I was not baling but if I knew then what I knew now I would have stood back and let the bugger burn! It was one of the most unreliable things we ever had on the farm. That further reminded me of a guy telling me about a JCB digger that caught fire on a building site over here. The driver got a bucket of water to throw at it. His boss shouted to him "Don't use water, use diesel!"
