Pell lime is used by golf courses, residential yards, grounds keepers where they want a quick raise in soil pH. It is usually fast acting since it dissolves quickly in rain. Our pell lime here in IN comes in 50 lb bags that are 5.95 or 6.95 each. It is most expensive lime you can buy on per acre basis. Lime from the quarry is 6.95 a ton (2000 lbs ). The other factor about these two forms of lime is pell lime here has a 95% CaCo content which is the neutralizing compound while quarry lime here has 28% to 36% CaCo content depending on the grade you ask for.We always apply quarry lime on ag fields because of lower cost. It probably lasts longer in the soil profile but takes a little longer to neutralize soil acids. We always get a soil test first to guide the application rate.
