Go for it. I converted a house I bought from LP to NG last Fall. No neighbors downstream wanted it so I foot the 400+' cost ($8k) to extend the main line just far enough to get to my house. That 6000 ft extension of your neighbor's has got to be close to six figures. You hooking up for free is phenomenal.
