I applaud you for never meeting an intelligent cop! That must mean you have lead a clean life on the farm!
I grew up working on my Uncle and Grandpa on their farm. I learned a lot of good lessons that have helped me during the past 20 years being in law enforcement. Bailing hay, castrating pigs, building fence, and shoveling manure taught me how to work hard. My Grandpa was my Hero, and I listened to everything he said, and paid attention to everything he did. He always said "if your not going to do something right don't do it at all". And "if you start something you better finish it". Also "if you can't say something nice then maybe it's not worth saying".
Seems like a lot of people like to criticize people in law enforcement for doing what they were hired to do. When I go to work I figure I am getting paid to do a job, so I'm gonna do the best i know how to do. I enforce the law. I don't agree with, or enjoy enforcing certain laws but it is the job I get paid to do. I apply common sense when appropriate and use discretion when I can. Some people think traffic tickets are a waste of time, but more people die on the roads every year then are shot, raped, and robbed. But usually nobody cares about that unless it effects them.
Again I applaud you for being a retired farmer. Farming is a hard life, and the some hardest working people I have ever met are farmers. Every occupation might have a few bad eggs, but i know the cops I work with are good people with good intentions, and are intelligent too. Again it's good you must not have met any of them in your life. Keep living clean!

It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer.
