Is it gunk or rust. If you have no leaks and very little rust I would take the tank off and pour a couple of gallons of MEK into it and shake and let it sit and shake again. ETC. The MEK will remove all of the varnish and gunk. A little rust SHOULD stop at you settlement bowl. If the tractor set for a very long time the gas will evaporate away till all you have left is a real gooooey mess in the bottom. MEK is very strong stuff and will remove paint in an INSTANT so be very careful. Did a couple of old lawn mower tanks a chainsaw and a lot of carbs. Just my .o2$ so be careful!
