Talked to a gentleman the other day who was also on the Missouri when the signing took place. Love to hear those stories. We talked a long time. My British mother's step dad, Bert, was in WW1 and had been left behind in a battlefield with another soldier to retrieve any weapons they could find before moving up to the front lines. They spent the night in a shell hole and the next morning heard a German bi-plane flying toward them. They started firing at it and saw German pilot lean out of the open cockpit and drop a bomb by hand on them. Killed the other fellow instantly and blew Bert's foot off. He lay there in the mud all day and the next night. Heard British voices the next morning and they got him to a field hospital. Lived to be 91 in London. The doctor said the caked mud on his leg kept him from bleeding to death. Bert told me this story himself. He had a false foot and could walk as good as any body. Richard in NW SC
