Forty or so years ago, on a zero degree winter day,my wife and I set out to visit her parents who lived about 8 miles west of town. As soon as we were out of town, we could see a wooden grain elevator in a small town a couple of miles from where her parents lived was on fire.
I worked for the local newspaper at the time, and the first thing I did was turn around, go back to the office, and get a camera. We then parked about a couple of blocks away and I got photos of the burn from start to finish.
Turned out I was the only one known to have gotten photos of the incident. For a month after, I was inundated by various entities wanting photos, everyone from insurance companies to trade magazines. But-that was in the days when nobody knew what a cell phone was, much less have one with a camera in it.
