City kid, never raised around machinery; but as a youngster all the neighborhood kids would play at the Colombia Movie Studios Back-lot (about 80 acres) which was about a 1/2 mile from home. One weekend a couple of friends & I "found" a small Bulldozer (about the size of a D-3) that the Studios had been using to build a pond. I climbed up on it and began playing with the controls, - OOPS! IT STARTED! Now what do I do, I'm only 10 years old & I've never operated a piece of machinery before in my life. Well, I learned REAL QUICK. Drove it around some, pushed over some dirt piles. Couldn't figure out how to turn it off, so I nosed it into a big dirt pile, took it out of gear, climbed off and just left it running. LOL! Many years later I saw that same pond used in some of the old Tarzan movies.
Have operated a lot of different Tractors & Dozers since then, as an adult.
First Tractor bought: 1975 Yanmar Diesel MFWD, next was a 1951 CAT D-2 5U Bulldozer
