Boys, I'm so conservative I make Rush Limbaugh nervous, but Mark has some good points. The mythical "Patty" was wrong when she stated that all our SS payments were "safely tucked away in an interest bearing account for decades". That's crap. SS was a pay as you go program from the start and was being raided as early as Eisenhower. Yes, there was a surplus, but she makes it sound like someone stole OUR personal money. There was never an account for each of us, just a ledger someplace. SS was originally intended to do 2 things- put more money into the Depression era economy and buy votes for FDR. It was never intended to be a retirement fund and even the Sainted FDR stated that.
Medicare has been around since 1965 and has been another ponzi scheme from day one. This is another program that originally started out as a vote buyer for the elderly poor, now everyone seems to expect unlimited coverage. SOMEONE has to pay for it folks.
As far as her complaints about income taxes going up again, well, yeah, they're going to go up if we keep having to fund everyone pet cow. I'm all in favor of either a flat tax applied to EVERYONE or a national sales tax and letting the gov work with what they get. In reality, I'd bet 75% of us here would squawk like crazy if the Feds had to actually live within their means.
The rest applies to every single Congressman and Senator over the last 100 years. They get the golden treatment simply because we keep electing them. Why? Because they keep giving us grants and pork barrel projects and student loans and doing this, that and the other thing (SS, Medicare, Welfare, etc.) that keeps us voting for them. And on top of that, we can't get together enough to demand they live like the rest of us.
We are our own worst enemies folks.

I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
