I used to be an admin on a collectibles forum. There's an incredible amount of data available to the admins. The owner of the site I was affiliated with was most concerned about the average number of page views per month, and viewer sessions of 20 minutes or more. Those stats enabled him to sell banner ads that kept the site free for members.
As a moderator that was heavily involved in creating interesting and informative weekly and monthly features, I often checked the viewer stats for specific topics to gauge what our members were interested in.
The membership on that site was just a fraction of what they have here. It was approaching the 15,000 range. Page views were averaging well over 400,000 a month and user sessions of 20 minutes or more averaged over 130,000 a month. Not bad for a little forum like that.
