I've got a note written into my German diesel engine book about this. The note is for the D358 but I would think it would apply to the D310 also since it uses the same O-rings.
The reference is to Service Bulletin number S4076. D358 engines with serial number D052400 and up use the O-ring with gold stripes. Earlier engines use the one with the red stripes.
The red striped O-rings have a cross sectional diameter of 5 mm. The gold striped ones are 4.75 mm
For a 756 use the thicker, red striped ones.
