I have a JD mower---LX277---and it probably has a different steering linkage. But---the linkage on mine is a 3-segment piece with two ball-and-socket joints. You simply take the nuts off each end and replace the assembly. (Not cheap!) OR--- you might try to do a temporary fix by putting the ball back into the socket and peening the edges of the female part to hold the ball better. I have about 800 hrs on my mower and have replaced two steering arm assemblies.
