i presume you mean swapping the shaft one end for the other, not with the speed controller that was in the cab on some models, to get 540 rpms, put the 1000 end into the tractor and push against the spring, you may need to rotate the shaft a bit to get it to fully engage, then with pressure still on the shaft snap the retaining ring into place.
