This comes up here frequently. It is not likely to be because of sitting in the rain or lack of maintenance, it is the weather. It is so common for a moisture laden air mass to be followed by a cold front. Have you never had condensation drip from a tractor? Well at the same time as it dripping off the outside, it is dripping on the inside, due to the housing being vented. They are all vented to prevent damage to seals. Getting the engine up to operating temp will drive it off. My forklift with a big old Chrysler six would have to work for an hour to clear up the oil.
