If you reinforce a frame by adding material it is possible to reduce the deflection (flex) for a given load. Deflection follows a property called the "second moment of cross sectional area..." and is typically designated by the letter "I" in reference material. When material is added, generally it is desired to add the material in a manner to give the greatest increase in "I".
