It's interesting how people will read things into what you write. Nowhere did I say there was a stop sign or that I ran a stop sign. I said "Big sign says Stop for pedestrians in crosswalk." I would have stopped for her if she had been in the crosswalk or had proceeded into the cross walk. She was approaching the crosswalk so I slowed to a crawl to see what she would do. Some people don't want to feel hurried or that they're holding you up to cross. I do it too - motion someone to proceed even though technically I have the right of way. She stopped and nodded for me to proceed. That's when her melon fell out. If I had stopped in spite of her nod it wouldn't have made any difference. Her decision to stop caused the melon to fall. I don't owe her anything except a maybe bit of sympathy.
