Wife and I were in the doorway of the shop yesterday evening enjoying the cool air after a very hot day. Was just after sundown. Just outside the back door, we heard a loud raspy noise that sounded like a half scream, half growl about every 30 seconds. Got the dog and one cat to the house and wife grabbed my pistol and brought to me. It was in deep under growth in the edge of the trees about 30 feet behind the shop. Moved back and forth about 15 minutes and could never get a look at it but could see brush moving. Told my wife to stay close to her sewing room door in case it came in the shop. Finally shot one round into the ground and did not hear it anymore. Can a fox make that kind of noise? I know what a bobcat sounds like and this was not it. Think I will keep the shotgun close and pistol in my pocket for a while. Richard in NW SC
