When I had mine done back in 2003, they did the Left eye first (20/400) and I had the anesthesia. Awake but no pain, but could feel the pressure of them working on my eye. When I had the Right eye done 6 months later, because I had nobody to drive me home after surgery, they couldn't give me any anesthesia & wanted to reschedule me. I told them to go ahead without the anesthesia (only the 2nd person to do that in their facility). The most difficult part was holding perfectly still, even when some of the pressures of them working on my eye got kind of intense, but even then there was no real pain. Kind of amazed even them, that I was able to go through the surgery without ANY anesthesia.
