I try not to do off topics but looking for other cases/opinions.
Decided to purchase a new car. We already had financing and decided to not trade.
When agreeed we went to the "finance" office to fill out paperwork, I noticed my social sec number was already filled in on the title application.
I asked the finance person how he got it and he said it was already in their system and that i must have applied for something in the past.
The problem is I've never looked at a car or bought a car from these guys and have never applied for anything online.
Has anyone run accross this? I'm freezeing my credit reports just incase someone else (id thief) has recently done something. (nothing on the reports as of today so it would be very recent).
I believe fed law prohibits anyone obtaining my SS # without me giving it to them. There are also laws that they are not allowed to pull a credit report without a good reason (i never entertained getting credit there). I've asked them to explain this. No reply yet.
